My MAC Lipstick Collection!

Love Goddess, Dodgy Girl , Silly, Chatterbox, Viva Glam Nicki, Raspberry Swirl, Russian Red, Hug Me, Snob, Creme Cup

I'm going to be sharing with you my collection of MAC lipsticks! I'm a big fan of MAC Cosmetics in general, but I simply adore their lipsticks - their colour range is incredible, the consistency and longevity is impeccable and the packaging is also quite sleek looking! I own 10 MAC lipsticks, ranging from mattes to satins and limited edition to permanent colours. Also, at the end of the post I'll have swatches of them all. So let's have a look!

Here are all 10 lipsticks swatched on my arm, from left to right we have:

  • Creme Cup
  • Snob
  • Hug Me
  • Russian Red
  • Raspberry Swirl
  • Viva Glam Nicki
  • Silly
  • Dodgy Girl
  • Love Goddess
  • Chatterbox

Now I'll show you the lipsticks categorised by their finish and give you a little overview of what I think of each.

MATTES
I love the matte finish lipsticks that MAC have on offer, they're smooth and apply very opaque - however like all matte lipsticks, I wouldn't recommend apply them without exfoliating or moisturising beforehand. They can be quite drying, but I tend to pair them with a gloss on top so that does prevent the dryness greatly. If you're not a fan of a glossy lip, I would just apply plenty of lip balm before and after wearing a matte!

Dodgy Girl (Limited Edition)
This was one of the four lipsticks on offer with Kelly Osbourne's recent collection with MAC. It is a beautiful light lavender shade with a pink tint to it. I'm not a huge fan of very bold lip colours but I actually find this to be quite an easy bold to wear! You can see it in action in my Face Of The Day post. This lipstick is highly pigmented and glides on smoothly. I like that it doesn't drag your lips, it's very creamy for a matte! If you can get one online or at your local MAC counter, I'd highly recommend it!
Silly (Limited Edition)
Also a limited edition, Silly was released last year as part of the Fashion Sets collection. It's a bright pink with subtle blue undertones. Like Dodgy Girl, it is a surprisingly easy bold colour to wear, however unlike Dodgy Girl I feel like this has to be worn without a gloss to get the full effect, whereas I think Dodgy Girl is beautiful with or without a gloss. Some of my favourite dupes for this lipstick include Maybelline's Fuchsia Flash and Wet N Wild's Pinkerbell.

Russian Red
Finally, a permanent line colour! Russian Red is a gorgeous bluish-red which is slightly darker than the famous Ruby Woo. I'm not a red lip person, but when I had a free lipstick from the Back To MAC programme, I decided the best time to add a red lip to my collection was when I didn't have to pay for it! I would never wear this lipstick without a lip liner under it, as I find it so creamy that it can be slightly messy. I love MAC's Cherry Lip Pencil paired with it, they're a dream combination! I normally fill in my lips with the Cherry lip pencil, then apply Russian Red over it. I adore it for a dramatic look with minimal eye make-up, I think the colour would be flattering on most skin tones and is also great for making your teeth look whiter!

SATINS

My favourite finish is definitely satin, as I find it's the perfect balance between matte and cremesheen - they are just a really nice, easy to wear formula. They have a great, opaque coverage and I find their longevity the best of all the MAC finishes. I think they're a nice starting point for a newbie to MAC lippies as they aren't matte but they're not glossy - they are somewhere in the middle!

Viva Glam Nicki
This gorgeous vibrant pink was part of the famous MAC Viva Glam campaign, but it was a limited edition addition to the range. However I was at my local MAC counter a few hours ago and spotted it there! So if you're interested in picking it up, swing by your local MAC counter and enquire there. I love this shade, it almost has a coral tint to it, and it's a soft and creamy colour and I find it very moisturising on your lips. It's certainly a bright choice but I think it's perfect for this time of year.

Love Goddess (limited edition)
Love Goddess is a gorgeous pink-red shade which came out in October 2012 with the Marilyn Monroe collection. I picked this up because I thought it was such an usual shade - it's not pink but it isn't red! I loved the tones of it so I thought it would be a great addition to my collection. Admittedly, it is probably my least used MAC lipstick but I do love it for a night look or even with minimal make-up I think it's a great colour to finish a look off. I am yet to find a good dupe for this shade so if you know of one,  be sure to let me know!

Snob
Snob is a much-loved lipstick amongst MAC fans, and I can definitely see why! When I first bought this I wore it non-stop for a good two months, I was mad about it! It's a neutral pink, which makes it a great everyday option or a good choice of lip colour to compliment darker eye make-up. I do find that Snob has a slightly drier formula than the other satin lipsticks that I've changed, so I would recommend to prime your lips with some lip balm beforehand.

CREMESHEENS

Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of the cremesheen formula. I find them too creamy and too buttery for my liking, I don't find them opaque and I feel like they sit into lines on your lips - more so than mattes! This is just a personal opinion though, I find them very similar to the Revlon Lip Butters (which I hated!). Having said that, I do have two of them that I like! I feel like I'm completely contradicting myself saying this, but one of them is actually my favourite MAC lippie!

Raspberry Swirl (limited edition)
This gorgeous white-pink came out with the Baking Beauties collection last year, however MAC do so many variations of it in their permanent range you shouldn't have to look far to find a dupe! I always thought that it was very similar to Saint Germain. I love the colour of this lipstick, but I tend to gravitate towards it more when I'm paler as I find the whitish-pink shades can look a bit crazy on me when my skin goes darker in the summer. What I like about this shade is that it is one of those shades that looks lovely with any type of eye make-up - whether it's neutral or smoky it still looks great!

Creme Cup
Creme Cup is my all-time favourite MAC lipstick! It's the perfect shade that's in between a nude and a pink. I love this for everyday use and for pairing with dark make-up for going out at night - I really can't think of a make-up look that this colour won't compliment! If I was to recommend any lipstick to start your MAC collection with, it would be this one purely as I think it's a fuss-free, go-to shade that will look beautiful on many different skin tones, particularly paler ones.

LUSTRE AND AMPLIFIED
As I only have one of each of these finishes, I'll just put them together! Unfortunately as I was swatching Hug Me (left) the whole lipstick snapped! It was a trooper though, I've had it for over two years! That's why it looks a bit dodgy in this picture!
Anyway, I really like the lustre formula for a natural look, it's quite sheer so it just gives the lips a nice wash of colour.
The amplified is actually quite similar to the cremesheen, but I prefer the amplified as it's not as creamy but it gives a great opaque colour pay-off!

Hug Me
Hug Me was the first ever lipstick I bought from MAC about two and a half years ago, after much deliberating! It's a lustre and as I said, is quite a sheer. I love this lipstick as an alternative for a nude to pair with darker eye make-up, as I find that nudes just make me look dead! I am yet to find a nude that doesn't make me look dead or like I have put two layers of concealer over my lips..... If you also have this problem, definitely check out Hug Me! And hopefully yours won't break like mine did!

Chatterbox
I spoke about this lipstick in my June Favourites, it has become a firm staple in my make-up routine recently! It's a bright pink, but it is easy to wear because it isn't neon like so many brighter pinks tend to be. It's a great everyday shade that is an easy way to brighten up your whole look! I won't go into too much detail here as I pretty much said it all in my June Favourites post, but this is another lippie I'd highly recommend checking out if you're looking for a fun pink!

So that is my MAC lipstick collection for you! Let me know your faves!

  6. I have to agree that my favourite finish for MAC lipsticks is Satin. Most of my MAC lipsticks are Satin and they're just so creamy, yet long lasting. Can't go wrong!

I really wanted Dodgy Girl but when I tried it on at the MAC counter it looked so wrong that I knew it wasn't right for me.

Silly looks gorgeous too, will have to check out the dupes for it that you mentioned.

I really want to try out Creme Cup as everyone I know loves it and it seems like a pink that will suit my skin tone. :D

The same can be said about Chatterbox too! :D
